Pilates with Janet Cook

Injury led me to my first Pilates class in 1998 and I have been hooked by the method ever since. I loved the way Pilates made me feel. I quickly discovered that I was developing a stronger, leaner and more flexible body.

In 1999, with the generous support of Ian Dilworth, I qualified through the Pilates Institute, training with Michael King. A year or so later I qualified with The Body Control Pilates Association, inspired by Lynne Robinson and Gordon Thompson. Over the next few years I qualified to teach from basic mat-work to intermediate and advanced repertoire. Taking qualification in special conditions and applications of the Pilates technique, I learned to teach studio equipment including reformers, barrels and chairs. Hannah Jones and Trish Harrington of Pilates foundation brought a deeper understanding of this work and introduced me to the role of fascia in integrated movement.

My Pilates journey has always been enhanced by my experience teaching and practicing Yoga. Initially qualifying many years ago, I returned to a formal study of Ashtanga Yoga in 2012 and qualified to teach through ‘It’s Yoga’ training with the extraordinary Yoga teacher ‘Jaimie Blowers’, later further qualifying to teach Rocket Yoga.

I’ve been lucky enough to follow the development of Garuda, meeting James De Silver over fifteen years ago. I have spent a great deal of time studying at his St John’s Wood Garuda studio.

I am honoured to teach classes at O’Connor Chiropractic Family Wellness Centre. Privileged to spend my days alongside people as eager as I am to continue to explore the strong and graceful movements of Pilates

Pilates Academy

Pilates embodies the physical, the breath and the mind.

Simple movement patterns developing in complexity to create challenging and diverse sequences which require a sense of awareness of every movement. This essential property of the practice allows me to tailor my classes to the specific abilities and needs of my clients, ensuring each lesson is both rewarding and beneficial.
